Person to blame?

Talent reportedly had campaign workers in the city, including the North Side, who were paid decently for their efforts. He also advertised heavily on radio, attracting attention of some blacks who thought he had seen the light and actually respected African Americans or their opinions.

By the way, at least one of Talent’s quasi-supporters in the local “independent” media went nowhere near his candidate’s party at the Frontenac Hilton, spending the evening cheering results at McCaskill’s party downtown. Funny how that worked out.

A Talent campaign worker attended Sen. Barack Obama’s appearance with McCaskill on Sunday in Forest Park and said, “I just wanted to see a campaign with some momentum.” Yes, this person was really there to spy, but was truthful about the energy he experienced. A source close to the Talent campaign tells the American “there was a lack of professional direction and execution in his (African-American) community outreach initiatives.” That’s a note to Talent confidant Tim Person and the very bourgeois Tiffany Watkins.

Speaking of Talent backers, Harold Crumpton, the St. Louis City Branch NAACP president, presumably was supporting Talent. Crumpton had previously appeared at several pro-black events for Talent, and he maintained an open-line of communications with Watkins and Person.

Maybe he’ll follow Donald Rumsfeld’s example and just walk away.
