The City of St. Louis, Partnership for Downtown St. Louis, Trailnet, Great Rivers Greenway and founding sponsors joined Mayor Francis G. Slay last Thursday at the Grand Opening & Dedication of the new Downtown Bicycle Station.

The Downtown Bicycle Station, located at 1011 Locust Street in the 411 Building at 10th and Locust streets is 1,450 square feet, offers secure access and features more than 100 bike racks, showers and locker rooms for cyclists commuting to work. It is also located next to Urban Shark, a full-service bike shop.

The Downtown CID will manage the Downtown Bicycle Station under contract with the City, as well as contract with Trailnet for marketing and membership services and Big Shark to provide facility operations. This summer, Trailnet will relocate its 20 employees to the 411 Building as well.

This project is funded in part by the City of St. Louis with funds allocated by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Nowadays we have bike rack shops and you can practically install a rack almost anywhere you need one. Local authorities should try and promote cycling more. Cycling is also beneficial for one's health. Think about it.
