U.S. Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay will host a Promise Zone summit at 9-11 a.m. Friday, December 4 at Harris-Stowe State University’s Emerson Physical Education and Performing Arts Center, 3026 Laclede Ave.
In April, acting on a request from Clay and the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, President Barack Obama designated a portion of Missouri’s 1st Congressional District as one of six urban Promise Zones that will receive preferential treatment for competitive federal grant applications.
“My summit will help local elected officials and community service providers learn how to leverage this powerful new tool to win maximum federal grant funding,” Clay said in a statement.
The regional director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which administers the Promise Zone program, as well as senior executives from the Departments of Justice, Labor, Treasury, HHS, Transportation, Education, Commerce, the SBA and the NEA are expected to attend – in all, 12 different federal departments that offer competitive grants via 35 different programs.
