The St. Louis American is the reigning recipient of the Russwurm Award, recognizing the top African-American newspaper in the country, by the National Newspaper Publishers’ Association (NNPA). This marks the fifth year in a row, and the 12th overall, The St. Louis American has won that honor.
The St. Louis American is also a reigning Missouri Gold Cup newspaper, among all large weekly newspapers in the state, from Missouri Press Association. (This marks the third time in the last 4 years The St. Louis American has received top state honors).
In 2015, The St. Louis American was named “Newspaper of the Year” by Local Media Association, a trade organization with more than 1,500 member newspapers in the US and Canada.
In 2010 the St. Louis American tied for First Place for “Best Weekly Newspaper in North America” by Suburban Newspapers of America.
The St. Louis American is also a five-time recipient of the National Newspaper Association’s (NNA) first place award for Community Service among all weekly newspapers in the United States, as well as a six-time recipient of Missouri Press Association’s first place General Excellence award.
