Albert R. Cummings, Jr. of 2009 Overbrook Drive in Oklahoma City, OK passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 5, 2008.
Al was born on September 13, 1968 in St. Louis to Wava Marie (Gatewood) Cummings and Albert R. Cummings Sr. He attended Lutheran North High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He continued his education at the University of Missouri at Rolla, where he received a degree in electrical engineering.
Following his graduation, he moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission as a computer programmer/analyst. Later, he returned to Missouri to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he received a Juris Doctorate. After graduating, he returned to Oklahoma City where he was employed by Dolese as a systems administrator.
In 2002, he married and three years later divorced. From this short union was born the love of his life, his daughter, Alyssa Renee Cummings. Although his opportunities to spend time with her were limited, he cherished every moment.
Al participated in many activities but especially enjoyed shooting pool and spending time with friends and family. His home was known as the place that friends could go if they needed a place to stay or wanted to spend time talking. Al considered several of these friends to be more like brothers. Also among those very close to him were several members of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha (Epsilon Psi Chapter ’87).
He is survived by his parents; his two sisters, Simone Marie Cummings (Don Lawrence) and Valerie Ann Zanders (Mickah Zanders); his grandfather, James Charles Gatewood Sr.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
