The St. Louis Rams were in an unusual position this past Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Sporting a repulsive 2-5 record and only two games out of first place, the St. Louis Rams were in position to disrupt the Arizona Cardinals from running away with the NFC West division title.

Former St. Louis Rams icon quarterback Kurt Warner would have none of that. He played another strong game against his former team. And with that win last Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals are in the drivers’ seat.

This game meant more to the St. Louis Rams than it did for the Arizona Cardinals. The Rams as everyone knows are fighting an uphill battle. Just to make it to .500 would be a major improvement for them. This loss doused the playoff flames that were starting to flicker in the Rams locker room.

The most telling theme about this team this season is the play of the offense. Whether its Marc Bulger throwing the ball into coverage, or the offensive line getting whipped like a disobedient mule, or the sometimes placid play calling by Al Saunders.

Are we asking too much for the offense to sustain drives? Is it asking too much of the offense to score in the red zone? Is it asking too much not to turn the ball over?

The defense is full of flaws also. See cornerback Jonathan Wade.

But, the most disturbing thing from the blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals was that some of the so-called Rams fans were rooting for Kurt Warner. I heard it on the call-in talk shows. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear this blabber. Let me make this clear, on my part. I like Kurt Warner as well. However, he plays for the other side now.

I loved what he did as a Ram. He is a great humanitarian. He still gives back to the city of St. Louis and that’s wonderful. But, when he puts on the uniform of the Cardinals or anyone else, I want him to lose. I don’t want to see him throw for 300 yards like he did and lose. Because I know that if he throws for 300 plus yards he is very likely to win the game.

I’m calling out all so-called Rams fans. You cannot possibly be a Ram fan if you root for your own team to lose. And of all teams, the Arizona Cardinals. The same godforsaken franchise that left St. Louis after the 1987 season.

Are you people nuts? You must be. I don’t care how many coats Kurt Warner gives away n when he walks between those white lines on Sunday, he needs to be constantly running for his life. He needs to be hit constantly. He needs to be harassed in the pocket. He has to realize this was your home, but know somebody else lives in it.

It just so happens that on the other sideline, the man who took over his house is having a hard time paying the bills. He has a lot of unhappy creditors. And his creditors are looking for change.

The Rams have themselves to blame for this. They anointed Marc Bulger to take over for Kurt Warner. They just forgot to give him a few necessities for survival. Like having playmakers to get the ball to on a regular basis. A competent offensive line would be nice.

Marc Bulger is not good enough to will this offense or team to victory. He doesn’t have enough around him at the moment. But the contract he is earning telling us something else.
