Informational session set for July 15
Special to the American
St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley is currently enrolling students for the Gateway to College program beginning fall 2008 semester.
Gateway to College is designed for young adults ages 16 to 20 who did not complete high school and were last registered in the Hazelwood or Ferguson Florissant school districts. The program enables them to earn a high school diploma while simultaneously earning college credit toward an associate degree or certificate, and pays for student maintenance fees and books.
Along with funding from partner school districts, the Gateway to College grant provides support staff and services for up to 350 students from the Hazelwood and Ferguson-Florissant school districts who left high school without a diploma. Students must meet specific criteria to enter the program and will be dually enrolled at STLCC-Florissant Valley until they complete their high school diploma or reach the age of 21.
The Gateway to College National Network is part of the Early College High School Initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, The Ford Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Jobs for the Future, an action/research and policy organization that promotes innovation in education and workforce development, serves as the initiative’s coordinating intermediary.
To begin the process, students must attend an informational and two evaluation sessions, followed by an interview. There will be an informational session from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15 on the Florissant Valley campus at 3400 Pershall Road. In order to attend the session, students must first complete an application, which will be sent upon request, then call to reserve a space at the session.
For more information and eligibility requirements or to RSVP for the informational session, contact Angela Brooks at 314-513-4216 or via e-mail at abrooks@stlcc.edu.
