The St.Louis Rams’ football season has finally come to an end. But, really it has not. What did this loss to the Atlanta Falcons really do for the future of this franchise? Well,. on draft day, the Rams will have the No. 2 overall selection just like they did last year.
Before the loss to the Atlanta Falcons, word leaked out that the players have voted unanimously for the return of interim-coach Jim Haslett. Ha! Don’t make us laugh. If these so-called players really wanted to play for Jim Haslett, there was no excuse for not at least one win in the last 10 weeks of the season. The players in the Rams locker room have zero creditability. It’s obvious by the play and competitiveness of this football team.
I speak for a lot of the fans when I say that the St. Louis Rams need to clean house. Wipe the entire coaching staff out and start over.
And that includes offensive coordinator Al Saunders. I was such a staunch supporter of Al Saunders when he was first hired. It looks like he does not have the guile to turn it up on offense. His play-calling never put the opposing team on its heels as we saw in the past. Sadly enough, the play-calling became very predictable. Even sitting in the comfort of your own home you can tell by the personnel on the field what the Rams are trying to do offensively.
That’s not good enough. The Rams did show a little bit of life in the last game of the season. However, the game ended in predictable fashion with the Rams on the losing end of another contest.
There are so many questions to be answered out at Rams Park. They have already announced the resignation of team president John Shaw and Jay Zygmut. The fans have already spoken. If Chip Rosenbloom does not want to turn the fan base off anymore, he cannot afford to hire back Jim Haslett and his staff. He has to find the right man for the job. There will be a lot of changes in the coaching reigns next season.
The St.Louis Rams have to make sure that the next man they tap as head coach can be the one to get this moribund franchise back to the level of respectability it garnered in the early 2000’s. Pending on who and what the Rams draft and sign during the off season will determine if this team can do the same thing as the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, and New York Jets this season. Three teams that were laughable a year ago now are posting .500 records with a chance to make the playoffs.
The St. Louis Rams first choice has to be middle linebacker in the draft. I’m giving you an early prediction for the draft. The Rams will select USC middle linebacker Rey Maualuga. He is a man. He stands 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 260 lbs. He can make a difference. He could very well be the piece that starts the true transformation of this team, from laughingstock to credible to respectable. I would like to wish all the readers a Happy New Year. Thanks for supporting the paper. We couldn’t do it without our loyal readers.
