St. Louis Rams receiver Isaac Bruce refused to give the team a hometown discount and as a result he was released on Sunday.

Bruce said he would be willing to adjust his contract if the Rams were not flush with cash. But the Rams are under the salary cap and have money to spend, according to Bruce.

“We do want Isaac to remain a Ram,” Rams president of football operations Jay Zygmunt told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

We’re still hopeful that we can get something done in the near future.”

That future could be between now and Wednesday. The Rams can withdraw the transaction should the NFL and NFLPA come to an agreement on a new collective bargain agreement before yet another deadline passes on Wednesday.

The Rams balked at Bruce’s 2006 salary cap figure of $10.04 million under his old contract. HE was scheduled to make $8.1 million this season, including a $1.5 million roster bonus due on the first day of the league year – which could be Wednesday.
