In partnership with United Way of Greater St. Louis, Saint Louis Bread Co. is encouraging its customers to volunteer in local communities and build better, stronger neighborhoods.
Starting June 3 in Fairview Heights, Ill., and culminating Aug. 19 in the city of St. Louis, five area Saint Louis Bread Co. bakery-cafés will host volunteer opportunities at a United Way-funded agency in each respective community. In accordance with agency needs, volunteer projects will vary in terms of dates and times, number of volunteers and types of duties.
Each bakery-café will host a breakfast, information session and bread-breaking ceremony at its location prior to volunteers’ participation in a project. Volunteers must register first before participating in a project.
The schedule of volunteer opportunities follows.
* Saturday, June 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Illinois Center for Autism. Fifteen preregistered volunteers will meet at the Saint Louis Bread Co. at 5917 S. Illinois in Fairview Heights, Ill. At Illinois Center for Autism, they will help paint classrooms, create art and visual aids, and perform yard work.
* Tuesday, June 20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wyman Center. Ten to 15 preregistered volunteers will meet at the Saint Louis Bread Co. at 453 Old Smizer Mill Rd. in Fenton, Mo. At Wyman Center, they will provide hands-on assistance to campers enrolled in the Center’s Camp Coca-Cola.
* Saturday, July 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Family Support Services. Ten to 15 preregistered volunteers will meet at the Saint Louis Bread Co. at 2079 Zumbehl Rd. in St. Charles, Mo. Volunteers will help inaugurate Family Support Services’ brand new facility in O’Fallon, Mo., by engaging in yard work and mulching, as well as possibly painting and helping to prepare the playground area.
* Saturday, July 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf. Ten to 15 preregistered volunteers will meet at the Saint Louis Bread Co. at 17132 Chesterfield Airport Rd. in Chesterfield, Mo. At St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, volunteers will do yard work and mulching while children are attending camp.
* Saturday, Aug. 19, times to be determined. Second Annual United Way-St. Louis Cares Servathon. Ten to 15 preregistered volunteers will meet at the Saint Louis Bread Co. at 116 N. Pine St. in downtown St. Louis. They will join a team of 200 to 300 preregistered volunteers to paint murals at an assigned public school in the city, assemble back-to-school kits at an agency, and paint and clean at various schools and agencies serving area youth. Activities will take place throughout the City of St. Louis and tentatively in association with several United Way member agencies.
