Other races of interest this year are those for license collector and collector of revenue. With the anticipated retirement of Collector of Revenue Ron Leggett, License Collector Greg F.X. Daly (who has long coveted Legget’s job) has announced he is going to file for collector of revenue. This move has prompted the long-awaited city-wide candidacy announcement by 19th Ward Alderman Mike McMillan. Ever since McMillan was elected alderman in 1997, rumors have been rampart about when and which higher office he would pursue. A patient McMillan has used his tenure to build an impressive record of development in his ward and to raise a boatload of money as an alderman. McMillan’s 19th Ward success, impressive political endorsements and his substantial war chest make him the odds-on favorite.
