Tyson Foods Inc., has reached a nearly $1 million settlement with a group of current and former workers who filed a racial discrimination lawsuit involving actions at the company’s Ashland, Ala., poultry plant.

The agreement resolves complaints filed in federal court in August 2005 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and 13 African American workers who alleged racial discrimination at the plant.

According to the settlement, Tyson denies violating any laws, but will pay $871,000 collectively to the 13 workers.
