Certified Financial Planner Program to benefit

The Moneta Group has donated $10,000 to the Certified Financial Planner Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The financial advisory company, which is based in Clayton, Mo., won the 2007 Best-in-Business Award from Schwab Institutional, a division of Charles Schwab & Co. The award includes a $10,000 grant that the Moneta Group in turn gifted to the university.
Schwab’s Best-in-Business Award honors firms that have advanced the industry through their visionary leadership, operational excellence, technological innovation and impressive growth.
“We are truly humbled and honored to be selected best in business,” said Peter Schick, chairman of the Moneta Group and 1974 graduate of UMSL.
“At Moneta Group, creating raving fans is everyone’s job. This award shows we are accomplishing that goal. I’m also pleased, that as a successful business, we can help programs such as the Certified Financial Planner Program at UMSL. We hope our gift will further enrich the lives of future investment planners, and through them, better serve the St. Louis community.”
The company’s gift will be used to provide scholarships and other support to UMSL students enrolled in the program, which was created in 1998. It consists of six courses, and it prepares students for the standard board certified exam.
“We are so very thankful to Moneta Group for its generosity to the university and our students,” said Keith Womer, dean of the College of Business Administration at UMSL. “Our program is already top-notch and with this help, we can continue to assist our students with the best possible training.”

SLPS lawsuit fund

A benefit concert for the Save Our Children’s Education Fund will be held at The Atomic Cowboy, 4140 Manchester (between Boyle
and Sarah streets) Saturday, December 15 from 2-6 p.m.
The Black Notes will perform with The Raw Earth Experience, The Ivory Coast Drummers and DJs Toby and Britton. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children (food not provided). All proceeds go to the SOCE fund.
“The fund is paying the legal bills for a lawsuit that is trying to stop the State takeover of the City school district,” said organizer Darren O’Brien
