Carl E. Harris wants the job state Rep. Connie Johnson is vacating in the 61st District of Missouri due to term limits. Harris is a longtime community organizer and activist.
His campaign announcement is strong on what one would expect – health care, education, economic development – though he rather over-reaches on what a state rep can do in stumping on, of all things, 9/11. He says, “We must never again allow bureaucracy, politics and complacency to alter and prevent our intelligence agencies and government from doing their job and protecting our nation.” That’s for the secretary of state application, not a cubicle in Jeff. City.
Harris also says, “It is time to take politics out of the St. Louis Public Schools system,” which is a noble sentiment, akin to saying it’s time to root out sin and evil from the human heart.
