Missouri College opened the doors of its new Dental Hygiene Education program in March. Accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA), the establishment of this program marks a breakthrough for Missouri College.
This program launch comes on the heels of Missouri College’s move to its new location at the Meridian at Brentwood and includes the construction of a new dental clinic. The five-semester dental hygiene program is supported by a comprehensive and interdisciplinary plan of studies.
“The potential this program has to increase educational opportunities for students interested in careers in oral health are immense,” said Mr. Karl Petersen, President of Missouri College. “This new initiative builds on the expertise of the College’s faculty and staff and the new resources allocated to make this program a reality.”
A financial investment from Career Education Corporation (the parent company of Missouri College) of more than $800,000 will ensure the operation and sustainability of the program that will provide oral health education and healthcare services for the greater St. Louis area. The new program is separate from a Dental Assistant degree program, which the College has operated for more than 30 years.
“The program’s mission is to meet the tangible needs for dental hygienists in the state of Missouri,” said Dr. Hubert Benitez, National Director for Dental Hygiene Programs. “We understand the need of promoting oral health, eliminating health disparities, and building partnerships to enhance education and service.”
Since 1963, Missouri College (www.missouricollege.com) has given students the opportunity to obtain innovative, career-oriented training. The school has diploma, specialized associate and bachelor degree level programs in the Healthcare and Business Areas, with a focus on Dental, Healthcare, Massage Therapy and Management fields.
McKendree offers new summer tuition option
McKendree University has cut its 2009 summer class tuition in half for undergraduates at its Lebanon campus, in a bold, unprecedented move to support students in a tough economic time.
Co-curricular activities and services offered during the fall and spring terms, such as social events, concerts, speakers and counseling, are not available in the summer.
“McKendree’s Board of Trustees is extraordinarily sensitive to the financial issues and challenges that students and their families face in this current economic crisis,” said Dr. James Dennis, university president. “We have significantly reduced our summer tuition to make our quality education more affordable.”
Students may take advantage of the deep discount to lighten their course load during the regular school year and accelerate their academic program. Incoming students can ease the transition to college life by getting a head start on their classes and becoming familiar with the campus. For currently enrolled students, grades earned in summer courses taken through McKendree, unlike courses transferred in, will apply to their GPA.
