Judge Jimmy Edwards, on behalf of the 22nd Judicial Circuit (St. Louis city), is scheduled to receive the Permanency Award, to be presented by Supreme Court Judge Mary Russell, during a special ceremony at 2:30 p.m. today (Friday, Nov. 20) at the St. Louis City Courthouse in St. Louis.
This is the second time the 22nd circuit, has won the Permanency Award. Also during the ceremony, Supreme Court Judge Zel Fischer is scheduled to present the ASTAR award to Circuit Judge Margaret Neill and Probate Commissioner Patrick Connaghan. The ASTAR (Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource) award is given to judges who have taken multiple court-related science and technology classes and obtained the acquired skills of an ASTAR fellow. Media are welcome to attend this ceremony scheduled to be held in the court en banc courtroom.
The Permanency Award is given to circuits for successfully holding timely hearings during fiscal 2009 in child abuse and neglect cases in which children removed from their homes are to be reunited with their families or are to be placed in another permanent home as soon as possible. The 22nd circuit is one of 23 judicial circuits that will receive the award this year. The remaining circuits will be honored during the coming months.
