Asked why she wrote the book, Ms. Hudson said, "The book was inspired by my children and my story of how I introduced them to the importance of developing their personal relationships with money.  Our young people should understand that money has a specific use and we are responsible for being good stewards of our money.”

“Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees.” This is the title of financial coach Deletra Hudson’s new children’s book about money and time, and why we can’t always have everything we want. According to Hudson, the book was inspired by her children and  how she introduced them to the importance of developing their personal relationships with money.  She believes young people should understand that money has a specific use and every person is responsible for being good stewards of his or her money.

As part of Money Smart Week – a week full of free, fun, financial empowerment classes and events – Hudson will be appearing at the St. Louis County Library headquarters on April 22 at 10:00 am to read and discuss her book with local children. Additionally, nine other library locations across the region will host story times with the book to help teach children about money. The events include a free activity for young children.

Tim Maurer, author of “Simple Money,” will also be a Money Smart Week featured author on April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Louis County Library headquarters and on April 26 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles County Spencer Rd Branch Library.

Over 100 additional free classes, seminars, and kids’ activities covering topics such as money management, getting out of debt, creating wills and trusts, protecting yourself from identity theft and how to start your own business will be held at libraries, community centers, and non-profit organizations throughout the city and county.

This is the sixth year United Way of Greater St. Louis has convened over 100 organizations to bring Money Smart Week to the community.
