Alderwoman Marlene Davis has called for new laws on Thursday in an effort to make wearing sagging pants a crime.
Davis says she is fighting for the legislations because she believes it is lewd conduct.
The proposal would make it illegal and if caught, violators could be fined up to $500 or face jail time.
The board of aldermen will meet again in September to discuss the ban. Davis said she discussed Bill 117 in a public safety meeting.
She told her colleagues she would hold two public meetings. “I’d like to hear from those for and against alike to have a discussion open and opinions that we can weigh in on,” Davis said.
Another meeting is planned for Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Long Middle School to discuss the proposal.
