Diaper giveaway at Ferguson-Dellwood Community Resource Center

Having an adequate supply of clean, dry diapers for babies and toddlers can be an expensive necessity for families with limited financial resources. Through the St. Louis County Office of Community Empowerment, County employees have been working to relieve that burden for families by collecting diapers to give to those who need them. Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 15 is diaper giveaway day at the Ferguson location of the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery – the Ferguson-Dellwood Community Resource Center, which is located inside of St. Peters United Church, 1425 Stein Road. The time is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“Crisis Nursery’s Ferguson location helps parents by providing specialized counseling and essential baby products,” County Executive Steve Stenger said. “They are invaluable partners in our efforts to improve and protect the health and safety of our residents.”

Crisis Nursery Executive Director Diane Mueller said diaper giveaway events connect the organization to families in need of their services.

“Parents know they can rely on us in times of crisis, whether those situations involve homelessness, poverty, or, simply, those periods of overwhelming stress that go hand-in-hand with raising children.”

The work of the Crisis Nursery is supported through the St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund. Last year, the Fund provided $1.8 million to help Crisis Nursery serve over 7,200 children.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, one in three families in the U.S. experience a diaper need – affecting a child’s health and development, and caregivers as well. Without clean diapers, infants and young children who are not potty-trained cannot attend childcare, and without childcare, working parents cannot go to work.
