Many Mizzou fans feared the worst regarding the mysterious injury to highly-touted freshman Michael Porter Jr. Today those fears came true.
The University of Missouri announced that Porter is scheduled to have back surgery and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
According to ESPN.com, “Porter will have a microdiscectomy of his L3-L4 spinal disks. The school said the projected recovery time is three to four months and that Porter is expected to make a complete recovery.”
“I really appreciate the support of my family and the Mizzou Men’s Basketball program as I begin this process,” Porter stated via the statement released by the University. “I’m thankful for all the kind words and messages I’ve received from fans. Those mean a lot to me. I cannot wait to be completely healthy and playing the game I love, once again.”
The announcement comes just one day after Porter flew to Dallas to visit an unidentified specialist. On the season, Porter has been limited to just two minutes due to the injury.
The Tigers are currently 3-1. The team’s next game is on Thanksgiving Day, versus Long Beach State.
