“With the number three pick of the NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics select Jayson Tatum.” – NBA Commissioner Adam Silver
Draft day turned out to be Jayson Tatum’s lucky day. The former Chaminade High and Duke University standout was chosen by the Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA Draft.
While most lottery picks go to bad teams, Tatum will join a Boston team that finished 53-29 and earned the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Apparently, he was their man all along.Â
Earlier this week, Celtics GM Danny Ainge told the Worchester Telegram, “There is a good chance the player we take at No. 3 will be the exact player we would have taken at No. 1.”
At Duke, Tatum averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. He helped lead the Blue Devils to a 28-9 record and an ACC Tournament Championship.
