Shortly after Normandy High School’s regular dismissal time of 2:55 p.m. on Sept. 8, a 10th-grade male student was shot in the leg across the street from campus.

Police apprehended two adult males, neither of whom were district students, near the scene of the shooting. District officials said the Wellston Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, is conducting an investigation.

In light of last week’s event, the Normandy School District is hosting a community forum on Safe and Orderly Schools at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Lucas Crossing Elementary Complex, 7837 Natural Bridge.

This event will provide information on measures the district has implemented to prevent and properly settle student conflicts and how the home, school and community can partner to minimize the likelihood that conflicts will continue.

The forum will be presented as a panel discussion featuring parents, students, community members, law enforcement and district officials. All district parents and community members are invited to attend.
