Dymond Guilford, Missouri Baptist – Wrestling
The freshman from Lancaster, California earned a spot on the 2019 USA Women’s Freestyle Junior National Team.
Guilford clichéd her berth on the team by winning the championship in the 78kg class at last weekend’s USA Wrestling Wrestling Women’s National Championships and Junior Team Trials in Irving, Texas. She defeated Mariah Harris of Campbellsville (Kentucky) for the championship in a two- out of three-match format.
As a freshman this season, Guilford earned All-American honors after finishing second at the UWW Women’ National Championships.
Martinus Mitchell, SIU-Edwardsville – Men’s Track and Field
The senior thrower from Edwardsville High qualified for the upcoming NCAA West Regional meet in Sacramento, California this weekend.
Mitchell earned his berth to the NCAA meet by winning the championship in the shot put at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Cookeville, Tennessee. His winning throw at the OVC meet was 58 feet 2 inches.
Mitchell will also be participating in the NCAA regional in the discus. He is currently the school record holder in both the shot put and discus.
