Demontez McCray, McKendree University – Men’s Track and Field
The junior sprinter from O’Fallon High dominated the sprints at last weekend’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Romeoville, Illinois.
McCray was the conference champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes for the third consecutive year. He won the 100 in 10.47 seconds and the 200 in a seasonal best time of 21.08. He also ran a leg on McKendree’s 4×400-meter relay team that finished in second place.
As a sophomore, McCray was selected the GLVC Male Track Athlete of the Year. He finished second in the 200 at the NCAA Outdoor Nationals meet in 2017.
Randal Walker, Washington University – Women’s Track and Field
The freshman thrower from Carrollton, Texas was named the Women’s Rookie of the Year in the University Athletic Association.
Walker was a double-winner at last weekend’s UAA Outdoor Championships in St. Louis. She won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet 9 inches and the discus with an effort of 134 feet 11 inches.
Walker’s two winning throws helped the Bears win the UAA team championship. As a senior in high school, she was an All-State performer in both the shot put and the discus.
