Although it has been in use for a couple of months, the official celebration of the new pediatric wing at the North St. Louis County site of Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Center took placeĀ  last Friday.

The 4,500 square-foot pediatric suite is child-friendly and environmentally-conscious.

“This location was chosen for easy and convenient accessibility for the patients, as well as its proximity to area hospitals,” said Dr. Michael O’Conner, medical director.

“This new pediatric suite is proof positive of my commitment and President Obama’s commitment to providing and to closing health care disparities,” said Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay of Missouri.

Stimulus funds used to for the expansion also allowed PHC to offer new walk-in and other expanded medical services at the site, located at 11642 W. Florissant Ave.

“We have spent a lot of time around the table dreaming about how to best serve our children, and how we could serve them with dignity and respect and give our community the things that it deserves,” Dwayne Butler, CEO at People’s, said. “After a lot of hard work and support from many good friends in federal and state-level government, we were able to secure stimulus funds and really show the good that type of funding does.”
