Featured cellist Patrice Jackson took direction from Kevin McBeth, director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s IN UNISON Chorus, on Friday at its annual Black History Month concert – the first led by McBeth. It was a homecoming for Jackson who grew up in Kirkwood and is now a world-traveling concert musician. -

Abe Adewale, principal of ABNA Engineering, offers inspirational words to collegiate members of the National Society of Black Engineers at a kick-off event ABNA recently co-hosted at Washington University for NSBE’s 37th Annual Convention, which will come to St. Louis March 23-27. The annual convention attracts more than 8,000 black engineers and is projected to have a $22 million impact on the St. Louis economy. The St. Louis American will produce a special section on black engineers to coincide with the conference.
