Austin A. Layne, a “community champion and living legend,” will be honored tomorrow (Sat., May 3) at 2 p.m. with a street sign dedication ceremony.
Layne has been a funeral director for more than 30 years. He established his own business, Austin A. Layne Mortuary in 1979. His mortuaries are located at three locations in North St. Louis County and he is also active in numerous community and civic groups.
The event will be held at the Layne Renaissance Chapel located at 7302 West Florissant Ave. and the new Austin A. Layne, Jr. Way in Jennings, Mo. The event is free and open to the public.
State and city officials will also be in attendance.
The program will last about 45 minutes and was organized by Susan E. House, chair of the Austin A. Layne, Jr. Way street sign committee.
