The Ladue
girls arrived at the Class 4 state championships in Jefferson City
on a mission to break state records. Lots of them.
The Rams
accomplished their mission in a big way as they broke three records
with tremendous performances.
Star senior Samantha Levin actually broke the
state record in the 800-meter run twice. She set a new record in
Friday’s prelims with a run of 2 minutes 08.55 seconds. In the
finals on Saturday, Levin turned in a spectacular time of 2:06.74
seconds to break her own new record and launch herself on to the
national list. Her winning time in the 800 is the fastest in the
nation among seniors and third-fastest among all prep athlete in
the event.
Senior
Montenae Roye-Speight won the 400-meter dash with a new Class 4A
state record time of 53.84 seconds. That time is currently the
fourth fastest in the country.
The Rams
closed out the meet in grand style as Roye-Speight, Levin, Shayla
Arnold and Emily Warner won the 4×400-meter relay in 3:48.0, which
eclipsed a 25-year old state record by more than three
seconds.
After a
spectacular prep career that has garnered many state and national
championships for Levin and Roye, they are now headed to collegiate
women’s track power LSU.
