Author and entrepreneur Stedman Graham said the future of black America would depend in part on development of more African-American business owners during his keynote address at the 2003 St. Louis American Foundation Salute To Excellence in Business Luncheon.
He has now partnered with the National Black MBA Association to provide opportunities for professional and leadership development for executives, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
The duo has launched the Local Empowerment Initiative, and the National MBA St. Louis chapter and St. Louis American are sponsors of the “Day of Empowerment” beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the St. Louis Marriott Downtown.
Graham will address NBMBAA Leaders of Tomorrow high school students at the St. Louis Chapter during the Leaders Make It Happen digital media project based on his education program and New York Times bestseller, Teens Can Make It Happen: A Nine Step Plan For Success.
“I am very excited to partner with the National Black MBA Association in support of the Local Empowerment Initiative,” said Graham, who serves as chairman and CEO of S. Graham & Associates, a Chicago-based management and marketing firm specializing in corporate and education consulting.
“The landscape in the marketplace is changing, and I believe it is important that we continue to explore opportunities to help people of color grasp a better understanding of business and how the free enterprise system works in order to compete.”
Additional events include an executive panel discussion, job fair, workshops and networking events.
“The National Black MBA Association has always made a difference in careers and lives of our members through our national conference and our local chapter activities,” said Barbara Thomas, president and CEO of NBMBAA.
“Through local empowerment in St. Louis, we are introducing how we can combine our strengths from all levels within our association to reach more individuals and organizations that can benefit from the unique insights, training and opportunities we offer.”
This partnership will further strengthen the workforce “from recruitment through retirement.”
Tickets are $45 for NBMBAA members and $60 for non-members. Each ticket provides access to all activities after 4:30 p.m. and is required. The ticket price also includes an autographed copy of Graham’s book. There is no admission charge for the professional job fair from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and a Financial Planning Seminar from 3-4 p.m..
Graham’s session is from 6-8:30 p.m., with a book signing at 8:30 p.m.
