Born on February 18, 1905 as Mamie Jashmer to parents Maggie and Baptist Jashmer, “Mae” was the youngest of ten children.
When Mae was very young, her family moved to East St. Louis. When race riots came to East St Louis, the family sought refuge in St. Louis. It was in St. Louis that Mae was educated in Catholic grade schools and Sumner High School.
Mae was married to Augustus Overton. This union produced two children, Vernita and Wendell. Grandmother of three, great-great grandmother of several, Mae has two neices, one nephew and many great-great-great neices and nephews.
Lately, she has been reminding everyone she will soon be 100 years old!
Mae has a fantastic memory and good appetite and till loves get-togethers with friends and family. Mae also enjoys sewing, knittng and keeping up with the soaps.
