As part of the 109th Congress reorganization, U.S. Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay has been named the ranking Democratic member of the newly created Subcommittee on Federalism and the Census under the House Government Reform Committee. He will also serve on the Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs.
The Subcommittee on Federalism and the Census will address matters relating to inter-governmental relations, aid to the states and localities, grant management reform, Brownfields clean-up and related redevelopment. It will oversee the Census, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and issues related to the oversight of housing and urban development.
The Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee will have jurisdiction over regulatory reform, Congressional review, paperwork reduction and tax policy oversight issues.
Clay is also a member of the House Financial Service Committee, where he has been named a new member of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and he will continue to serve on the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises.
The Financial Institutions Subcommittee focuses on banks, depository institutions, deposit insurance and the overall safety and soundness of the banking system while the Capitol Markets Subcommittee watches over the U.S. capital markets, securities and insurance industries and government-sponsored enterprises. It also oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission and related self-regulatory organizations.
“Through my new subcommittee assignments, I will have more opportunities to better serve the interests of the First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Clay said.
“The Subcommittee on Federalism and the Census is a key post for helping the St. Louis community in its redevelopment projects, while my continued service on the Financial Services Committee will offer greater opportunities to help leverage and promote both public and private sector investment and housing development in the St. Louis area.”
