I am Joe Jonas of Dallas, Texas. My lady friend picked up a copy of your paper when she was in St. Louis and showed me the story about Rosco Gordon.
I was around Dallas in the ‘50s when Rosco Gordon was here. I was working as a solo artist when the Red Tops were upstairs and I was in the basement. It was called the Bohemian Room. I played congo and vocal songs.
I have a tape of Rosco and the Red Tops from 1957. If you think you would like to see this tape, let me know. Yes, Rosco’s sidekick chicken is there, too. I don’t know if this chicken was a rooster or a hen, but I have the tape.
