The 5’8″ senior guard led the Tigers to the Ameritime Invitational Tournament championship with three victories over three of the top programs in the state.
“Sonya Smooth” averaged 20 points a game in the tournament as the Tigers defeated Duchesne, No. 1 St. Joseph’s and Jefferson City for the title.
She had 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in Hancock’s 38-32 victory over Hancock in the first round. She followed up with 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals in the Tigers’ 45-37 upset of top-ranked St. Joseph’s in the semifinals. She scored a game high 14 points in the championship game against Jefferson City.
For the season, Daugherty is averaging 23.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 steals in leading the Tigers to a 16-2 record. A four-year starter, Daugherty has transformed the Hancock program from a consistent losing team to one of the top small schools in the area.
Daugherty has scored 2,435 points in her career in leading the Tigers to a record of 84-16. As a junior, she averaged 32 points a game to lead the St. Louis area. She also led Hancock to their first district title in the school’s history and a berth in the Final Four of the Missouri Class 3 state tournament.
