Millions of Americans have filed for bankruptcy over the last decade. State Sen. Maida Coleman is among them, and she should not be ashamed. Millionaires, single moms and dads, business owners and many others find themselves in a dire financial situation from which they cannot climb.
However, most folks who file for bankruptcy do not plan to run for auditor of a state, which Coleman still aims to do.
The EYE wishes her luck, but warns Coleman and all of her supporters that her past financial record is fair game in a political battle. Also, if there are any more financial skeletons in her closet, she should disclose them before the Post-Dispatch does it for her again.
