Dave Chappelle has quietly returned to the stage and performed three hilarious shows Nov. 19-21 in Las Vegas, according to The New York Times.
On June 1, he performed a pair of unannounced sets at two stand-up clubs in Los Angeles, the Improv and the Comedy Store, where he humorously discussed his abrupt flight from “Chappelle’s Show” on the Comedy Central cable network.
“Boy, I’d love to take credit for it, but all I did was answer the phone,” said the Improv’s director of talent, Erin Von Schonfeldt. It was Chappelle on the other end of the line.
“What happens is, when Dave wants to do something, I just say, ‘O.K.’ “
Chappelle then performed across the country in everything from 325-person nightclubs to 14,000-seat college auditoriums.
At his first Las Vegas show, Chappelle received a lengthy standing ovation and opened with the lines, “Thank you very much for welcoming me back to America. In case you haven’t heard about me, I’m insane.”
He also had words for Comedy Central
“Whatever you do in your life, do not stand up for yourself, because these white (people) will beat you down.”
