I was unfortunate enough to see some St. Louis attorneys, known as The Courthouse Steps, perform at a recent event and, wow, was their play list obnoxious. One of their tunes, sung to the beat of the Village People’s “YMCA,” was turned into “It’s time to call the A-C-L-U,” complete with the spelling out of the words with their arms, etc. Another song poked fun at current cartoons. One guy was dressed up as Fred Flintstone and another as Dudley Doright. They proceeded to sing “Spongebob is Queer, the Sponge is Queer.”

Yet another song poked fun at an infamous local aldermanic incident. They took the famous country song “Stand By Your Man” and changed it to “Give Her The Can.” The sole African-American performer stood behind a blanket, and was passed a trash can. At the end of the song, the blanket was removed, and the woman had a stream of toilet paper hanging out of her pants. Get it?
