“Pretty fly for a white guy” never defined anybody better than Toast, former emcee for Midwest Avengers and Sky Bop Fly and one of the bad boys of tagging, spinning and breakdancing in the Lou when he hit the streets here out of Chicago 15 years ago. Toast, whose name was Hunter Brumfield III, shut out his own lights on July 31. He was a rocker, not a rapper, for the last years of his life, but old heads on the scene will remember this little dude and will miss him. Dude also reminds everyone with mental health issues to take them seriously and seek help, and the rest of us need to keep every eye on our friends who are tripping on that death wish. Sometimes, they mean it. And when they’re gone, guess what? They ain’t coming back.
