There was truly sugar in the Lou this past Sunday, when the Sugar Water concert came to the UMB Bank Pavillion. First, Floetry came onstage and did their thing, which was kinda too quick, if you ask me. The ultimate surprise was when Queen Latifah took the stage in a big, blue cowboy hat and did a variety of songs, from blues to her famous “U.N.I.T.Y.” rap from back in the day. I didn’t know the girl could sing a lil bit – not too much, because her backup singers’ mics were highter than hers She got her groove on, though. That wasn’t necessary for Miss Jill Scott rocking that wild red afro like she loves her self. Go on girl, be proud and happy nappy. She came out jamming “Livin My Life Like It’s Golden ” and rocked on through. Last but not least, Neo Soul queen Erykah Badu rocked the house and worked the crowd like a pro doing a variety of songs from “Bag Lady” to “Danger.” These sisters of soul gave a show that was simply on fire.
