A recent agreement between the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State College, soon to become a university, will before long have students rushing to finish their baccalaureate requirements so that they can jump right into the institutions’ joint post-graduate program. This initiative was officially signed into effect on Tuesday, when Dr. Henry Givens Jr., president of Harris-Stowe, and UMSL Chancellor Thomas George signed an agreement in which Harris-Stowe will offer some UMSL graduate hours.
Harris-Stowe students can now earn graduate credits toward obtaining a master’s degree in education, while earning their certification in teaching, according to Givens.
It will also give the college the opportunity to recruit additional students who are interested in the graduate option. As a result, UMSL will likely retain most of these students through completion of a master’s degree.
