HIGH MARKS FOR BUSINESS PRACTICES
Better Business Bureau adds St. Louis nonprofit to its ‘honor roll’
ST. LOUIS, May 25, 2005 nThe Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving eastern Missouri and southern Illinois recently named Parents as Teachers National Center, based here, to its “honor roll” of nonprofit organizations. Only 17 St. Louis area charities met the exacting list of national accountability standards to be designated to the “honor roll.” The program allows designated charities to use a BBB seal on their Web sites and on printed materials as a guide for potential donors.
“Providing high quality services and programs to families is the No. 1 priority for the Parents as Teachers organization worldwide,” said Susan Stepleton, president and CEO of Parents as Teachers National Center. “We are especially pleased that the National Center has received this coveted designation from the Better Business Bureau for quality business practices.”
To be designated for the “honor roll,” a charity must meet all 20 national standards in the areas of oversight, fund raising, reporting and financial statements. Parents as Teachers National Center is the backbone and resource base of Parents as Teachers, a parent support and early childhood education program with sites in all 50 states and six foreign countries.
In 2004, Parents as Teachers National Center was selected as one of the 10 Children’s Charities That Deserve Your Support by Parents magazine and designated one of America’s 100 best charities by Worth magazine.
The BBB Wise Giving Alliance collects and distributes information on hundreds of nonprofit organizations that solicit nationally or have national or international program services. It routinely asks such organizations for information about their programs, governance, fund raising practices, and finances.
