On August 4th HBCU Spelman College Alums hosted the annual send-off for graduating high school seniors in the area headed to Atlanta, GA. the following week. The incoming members of the Spelman College freshman Class of 28’ were the guests of honor. Creshuna and David Cade, Esq. served as hostess and host in their beautiful West County home. Their daughter Kendall Cade is a Spelman sophomore this year. Spellman students and Alums enjoyed an afternoon of sisterhood, introductions, great story telling, lunch and friendship. A highlight and purpose of the afternoon is to present the girls with gift bags and gift cards for use during the semester. Absentee and local voter registration education was presented in detail by Vicki C. Washington. This metropolitan area sent 14 new students to Spelman this year with 11 from the St. Louis area and 3 from East St Louis, IL. Very impressive. A few alums in attendance included Terry Plain (St. Louis Alumni Chapter President), Rukiya Anthony, Michelle Wilford Sanders, Lauren Eldridge Stewart, Tracy Gregory Goffe, Sophia Boyd C’25 and Wilee Diallo.

Native St. Louisans Tony Orea (Chicago, IL) and Audrey Miller (Atlanta, GA) attended the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and had a moment with the honorable Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.

Orion and Miller had a laugh with Tiffany Haddish demonstrating that organizing and fighting for democracy when the stakes are higher than ever can be energizing and joyful.
