Grammy-nominated, Scottish blue-eyed funk group, Average White Band has mesmerized the music world and been a particular favorite among African-American music fans for 50 years.

And with multiple gold and platinum albums and an anthology of hits from “Pick Up the Pieces” to “Schoolboy Crush”, “Person to Person”, “Cloudy” and “A Love of Your Own”, their influence transcends generations, making them one of the most sampled acts of all time.

So, it is apropos that Breakaway Entertainment, a St. Louis group of premier Black producers, are bringing AWB to Harris-Stowe State University (an HBCU) on December 13, 2024, for the group’s final concert prior to their retirement.

It’s an epic achievement and a fitting swan song for a group that was embraced by Black America from day one and has the potential to showcase St. Louis on the international stage.

That’s because, in addition to their performance, Sky, Warner Music Entertainment and Screen Scotland will also be filming a documentary, including interviews, archival and concert footage, which will include their finale in St. Louis.

Breakaway producers Mel Lovings and James Witherspoon said they are proud to bring AWB’s capstone performance to their hometown and believe it will make St. Louis the envy of the music world and Harris-Stowe the envy of HBCU’s nationally.

The working title of the documentary is Average White BandSoul Searching with a yet to be announced release date.
