St. Louisan Jayson Tatum was named the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The former Chaminade College Prep All-American continued his remarkable 10 month journey from his season ending Achilles injury by winning this weekly award for the 13th time in his career.
Tatum led the Boston Celtics to a 3-0 record last week, averaging 25.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists in the three games. He had a big performance on Sunday in the Celtics’ 114-99 victory at Charlotte. The Celtics played without stars Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, but Tatum led the way with 32 points, eight rebounds and five assists while making five of his 10 3-point attempts.
Tatum started the week with 19 points and seven rebounds in a 119-109 victory over the defending champion Oklahoma City, then followed up with 26 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in a 109-102 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
In his 11 games since returning from injury, Tatum is averaging 20.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line.
