The San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks will begin their chase for a championship tonight as the National Basketball Association Finals get underway.

The two teams will meet in Game 1 of the best of seven series tonight in San Antonio, with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. It is a rematch of the 1999 NBA Finals when the Spurs won in five games. That was the first of the Spurs’ five world championships.

San Antonio is seeking its first NBA title since 2014. The Knicks fans have waited a little longer for a world championship. The Knicks won their last championship in 1973, led by Hall of Fame players Walt Frazier and Willis Reed.

Both teams enter the championship series with a tremendous amount of confidence. The Knicks are currently the hottest team in the league. They enter the Finals on an 11-game winning streak, which included back to back four-game sweeps of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semifinals and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. They have also won their games by record margins.

San Antonio is coming off a dramatic victory over the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference finals. The Spurs defeated the Thunder in seven games, including a Game 7 victory in Oklahoma City.

The Spurs are led by 22-year old superstar Victor Wembanyama, the 7’5′ center from France who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Western Conference finals. The Knicks are paced by 6’2″ guard Jalen Brunson, who earned MVP honors in the Eastern Conference finals.

All games will be televised on ABC.
