American Coco Gauff has earned a reputation as one of the toughest competitors in women’s professional tennis.

Gauff displayed her competitiveness and mental toughness as she rallied for a three-set victory over Mirra Andreeva of Russian in the quarterfinals of the US Open on Wednesday afternoon in New York.

Gauff, 22, battled back from a mistake prone first set and fought off two match points in the second set to outlast Andreeva 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. It marked the 90th victory for Gauff in Major tournaments, which ties Hall of Famer Chris Evert for fourth among American women before the age of 23.

Gauff, the No. 4 seed, will face No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina in the semifinals on Thursday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium at 6:10 p.m. (St. Louis time).
