Last weekend, over 10,000 people got a chance to see the St. Louis Rams inside the Edwards Jones Dome. And the St. Louis Rams didn’t disappoint the loyal fan base. As usual before the event kicks off, general manager Les Snead takes the microphone and addresses the crowd. Snead got the fans going, reminding them how the Rams took care of business against the New Orleans Saints. He couldn’t have picked a better time to mention that because the Rams are hosting the Saints this Friday night in their preseason opener.

The scrimmage was fun to watch this year, especially watching the defense chase and challenge every single ball thrown in the air. Rams backup QB Shaun Hill looked uncomfortable with the constant buzzing of this aggressive defensive, spearheaded by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Linebacker James Laurinaitis didn’t participate, as he was wearing a walking boot. DT Michael Brockers suffered an ankle injury and was seen outside the Edwards Jones Dome in a walking boot as well. But, that’s not a worry for the Rams because they have a plethora of defensive lineman eagerly waiting to come on the field.

On the other side of the football, Sam Bradford zinged passes all over the football field, including a bomb to Kenny Britt that brought the Fan Fest crowd to its feet. A lot of us hope that was a sign of big things to come for the Rams offense.

Tavon Austin also got a rise out of the fans with his nifty open field running, displaying that he’s back and better than he was before. Running back Tre

Mason runs well, and his jump cuts are so smooth it looks as if he’s gliding on air.

But keep in mind this was just a scrimmage. There are still plenty of areas for the Rams to improve on – such as pre-snap penalties. These penalties are continuing to occur on both sides of the football. And having those types of occurrences can factor into you not having a winning season or even making the playoffs. The margin for error with the Rams is narrow. They’ve lost a lot of close games over the last two seasons because of these types of infractions. In order for them to take the next step and make it into the post season, the Rams must cut down on the penalties.

Nevertheless, the fans left the dome happy and excited about the 2014 St. Louis Rams. And starting this Friday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, we’ll get a better chance to gauge this team as opening day creeps closer.
