On Saturday, May 11, St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. and concerned citizens of Wellston will be launching its inaugural Wellston Work Play Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will consist of targeted vacant lot clean-up in the morning, lunch provided free to participants by the Pi food truck, conversation focused on the incoming St. Vincent Greenway bike and walking path that is estimated to be constructed in Wellston between 2013 and 2015, and finally a three on three basketball tournament, hosted by NewPOT Solutions Charitable Foundation.

“It’s wonderful to see a collaborative effort between St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. and the Wellston community as we promote growth, wellness, and support,” said resident Saudi Crudup. “We are recreating a bond that once was lost; by doing this, we are bringing everyone together.”

The community building event was envisioned by St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. and Wellston residents who are committed to empowering the community through conversation, service, and play. This event will launch a summer of innovative community-based solutions surrounding St. Vincent Greenway, and will engage Wellston residents in addition to neighbors along the Greenway, in particular residents living in the adjacent West End of St. Louis City in an effort to break barriers between municipalities and counties.

St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. is a community development corporation founded in 2011. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst to advance the health, safety, social and economic vibrancy, and interconnectivity in the communities along St. Vincent Greenway, a 7 mile bike and pedestrian trail built by Great Rivers Greenway that runs from Forest Park to NorthPark, just north of University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Greenway is partially completed; its newest portion in the West End neighborhood of St. Louis City was constructed in 2012. When complete, the Greenway will connect St. Louis City and County, including Skinker-DeBaliviere, West End, Wellston, Pagedale, Normandy, Greendale, Bel-Nor, and Bellerive.

If interested in participating in Work Play Day, meet at the corner of Stephen Jones and Plymouth in Wellston, Missouri, located one block east of the Wellston MetroLink station.
