The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists is sponsoring the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Awards Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, January 19 at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 Union Hall,
2319 Chouteau Ave.
The annual banquet is held in honor and observation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, which will be observed as a national holiday for the 30th time in 2015.
Awards will be presented to the following individuals for their contribution to the struggle of social justice, labor and human rights issues in the tradition of Dr. King:
- Denise Lieberman, Advancement Project senior attorney
- Pastor Traci Blackmon, Christ the King United Church of Christ
- Montague Simmons, chair of Organization for Black Struggle.
The keynote speaker will be Robin Williams, associate director of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) International Union.
“In the spirit of labor and community solidarity, we invite all to join us and participate in the presentation of the awards and the celebration of Dr. King’s birthday,” said Mark Esters, president of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists – St. Louis.
