The National Black MBA Association – St. Louis Chapter recently received a $12,500 contribution to assist with its Entrepreneur Think Tank. The grant – which was given to the non-profit organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program – will help minorities start their own business.

“This donation from the Walmart Foundation will allow interested and budding entrepreneurs to attend our Entrepreneur Think Tank at no cost,” said Jacquie Vick, president of the association’s St. Louis chapter.

“Our think tank not only includes a one-day workshop, but also continuing support and programs to entrepreneurs focused on business growth and development.”

The grant was presented to the National Black MBA Association – St. Louis Chapter during its general yearly meeting at Washington University. During the ceremony, Otis Scott, Regional Senior HR Manager, presented the check to Vick before chapter members, sponsors and officials from the St. Louis Development Corporation.

“The Walmart Foundation is very pleased to be supporting the National Black MBA Association, and are committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” said Otis Scott, Regional Senior HR Manager.

“Through this grant, we are hopeful that residents in the St. Louis area who want to become entrepreneurs or are just starting out will participate in the think tank.”

The contribution to the National Black MBA Association – St. Louis Chapter was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Missouri State Giving Program. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.

Last year in Missouri, Walmart, Sam’s Club locations and the Walmart Foundation awarded more than $21.4 million in cash and in-kind donations to local organizations.

To be considered for support, perspective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application. Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria. Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.
