St. Louis native Devon Alexander made an excellent first impression in his 147-pound debut by soundly defeating Marcos Maidana Saturday night via unanimous decision.
After less-than-impressive showings in his past three bouts, Alexander bounced back in a major way in front of his hometown crowd at the Scottrade Center. He dominated a dangerous, world-class fighter by using supreme speed, accuracy and ring generalship en route to victory. Judges scored the bout 100-90 100-90, 99-91.
With the victory, Alexander improved to 23-1 (13KO) and put himself in the mix for possible big money fights in the welterweight division. Maidana’s loss drops his record to 31-3 (28KO) and the fighter hinted he would return to the 140-pound division for future bouts.
On the undercard, 130-pound titlist Adrien Broder put on a blistering display of speed, power and accuracy by knocking out Eloy Perez in the fourth round.
